Our Premier Services
We are passionate about student achievement,
increasing teachers’ cultural competency, building capacity in the field of Ethnic Studies, critical and culturally sustaining pedagogy, and ensuring that school districts develop and maintain dynamic educational programs.
We do not think of the work we do as a series of projects, rather, as the building of partnerships and friendships necessary to transform the lives and educational experiences of every student the teachers we work with come in contact with. We want all students to reach their full potential and increase their academic achievement by ensuring that educators receive high quality training and are equipped with the tools they need to help close the opportunity gap for marginalized and underserved students.
In essence, critical and culturally relevant curriculum closes the opportunity gap for marginalized and underserved populations. Students deserve rigorous education that is centered around their lived realities and cultural backgrounds.
Culturally relevant curriculum allows for dynamic interplay between content, instruction, and assessment. All three are tightly aligned and designed to engage students in 21st Century learning, which is personalized, culturally sustaining, and leads to deeper understanding of content.
Community Outreach
A key element to an authentic Ethnic Studies program is developing students’ agency with the goal of giving them the tools to critically analyze social conditions in their local communities and to find solutions to improve those conditions. In order to do this successfully, it is vital that relationships are developed and sustained with local community organizations whose missions are to address social inequities.
EWP helps to establish and strengthen those relationships in order to enhance Ethnic Studies programs. These programs give students opportunities to acquire skills that will make a positive impact on them and their surrounding communities through civic engagement.
Capacity Building
An important component to ensuring your district establishes a solid foundation for a strong, dynamic, and sustainable Ethnic Studies program is to build capacity, both at the institutional and community-based levels. Capacity-building is the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve, and retain the knowledge, skills, tools, and other resources needed to meet the district’s mission, LCAP goals, and closing the opportunity gap in a sustainable way.
EWP consultants are well versed and experienced in capacity-building efforts to help teachers, administrators, parents, and students reach a thorough understanding of what Ethnic Studies is and how it can help all students when implemented appropriately.
Cultural Proficiency Training
EWP specializes in equity and cultural proficiency training with the goal of closing the opportunity gap for students by helping teachers identify and eradicate unconscious bias, discrimination, and racism from our classrooms and schools.
These training sessions are designed to help make school climates, curriculum, and pedagogy more culturally relevant, gender-fair, racially equitable that foster safe spaces for all students.
